Arsenal News: Maurizio Sarri to replace Mikel Arteta?

Arsenal News: The Gunners chiefs have reportedly held talks with Maurizio Sarri. This is certainly shocking news as Mikel Arteta has been a positive figure in the Arsenal camp until now.

The North London club seem to have found their identity back after missing out on European competition in 2021. Arsenal missed out on Europe for the first time last season since Arsene Wenger had taken over in 1996.

Things seemed to be going from bad to worse after a horrible start saw the Gunners at the bottom of the league after 3 Premier League games. But there has been significant improvement since. Owing to this, Arsenal are now one of the favourites to finish in the top four.

Arsenal’s turnaround in recent months needs to be rightfully credited to Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard has managed his young squad brilliantly and has won over the fans. This fact can be proven by checking out the supporters’ reactions at the Emirates Stadium.

With the air of positivity around the Emirates Stadium, it is evident that Mikel Arteta has done a wonderful job. Hence it is surprising to see reports suggesting that the Gunners could let him go in the summer.

As per HITC, Arsenal have made an approach for Lazio’s boss Maurizio Sarri. The Italian manager is reportedly not happy with his wages at the club and could hence leave the club in the summer.

The report suggests that Maurizio Sarri earns £88,000-per-week in his current deal with Lazio. The Italian has a contract with Lazio until June 2025. But Sarri is looking to end his contract in the summer and walk away.

Having joined Lazio in 2021, Sarri’s team is currently sixth in the Serie A table. Though Lazio’s sporting director has stated that the manager will stay, it looks unlikely at the moment as per reports.

Maurizio Saari has managed Chelsea in the Premier League before. The Italian manager was at the club for the 2018/19 season. During his tenure, he led the Blues to the Europa League title and also led them to the finals of the EFL Cup where they lost on penalties.

Chelsea also finished the season in third place behind Manchester City and Liverpool. This was a significant improvement for the Blues as they had finished 5th in the previous season under Antonio Conte.

Should the Gunners let Mikel Arteta leave?

Arsenal are currently fighting it out for a top-four spot against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. The Gunners were in pole position but their 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace has not allowed their rivals to catch up.

Nevertheless, Arsenal’s Champions League qualification hopes are still in their hands. Hence, it would be up to Mikel Arteta to show his character as he faces his biggest task as the Arsenal manager yet. If the Gunners finish in the top four, we believe that the Spaniard would certainly retain his job for at least another season.
