BBL 2021-22 Live: Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes played the 8th match of the 2021 season of the Big Bash League. Hobart Hurricanes won the game by 44 runs after rain impacted the game, and the target was reduced to 196 runs in 18 overs. Josh Philippe was the only batter who made runs for Sydney. However, it was not enough.
Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat. Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short came out to open the innings for them. Wade hit a six off the fifth ball of the first over, and from that point, it was all about him striking almost every ball out of the park.
Wade completed his half-century in the fourth over off just 19 balls. In the first six overs, Sydney made 70 runs. Short was a mere spectator, as Wade had a contribution of 65 runs in the total. In the first ten overs, Hobart had a total of 95 runs on the board and was racing towards a gigantic score. For Sydney, the first breakthrough came in the 12th over when Tom Curran dismissed Wade for 93 runs off 46 balls.
Short took over the charge along with Caleb Jewell, and the duo added 92 runs in the last 7.5 overs. Short completed his half-century in the 19th over after he hit a boundary off of the bowling of Sean Abbott. In the 20th over, Chris Jordan dismissed Jewell for 42 runs off 23 balls. Short remained not out with 73 runs off 51 deliveries. Hobart made 213 runs in the 20 overs for the loss of two wickets.
Sydney Sixers’ Innings
James Vince and Josh Philippe opened the batting for Sydney. In the 5th over, the target was reduced to 196 from 18 overs after nine minutes were lost due to rain. In the first six overs, the duo added 52 runs.
Joel Paris dismissed Vince for a score of 26 runs off 22 balls in the 8th over. Sydney scored 76 runs in ten overs and needed 120 runs off the last eight overs.
Sydney had a massive target on the back, but the duo of Philippe and Moises Henriques were striking every ball perfectly. It looked like they had the game in their pockets and needed just one over. However, Paris struck again in the 14th over to dismiss Philippe for 72 runs off 46 balls in the 14th over.
In the last four overs, Sydney managed to add only 32 runs and lost two wickets. In the end, Sydney scored 151 runs in 18 overs and lost the match by 44 runs. Paris dismissed three of the Sydney batters and gave away 35 runs in four overs.
Matthew Wade won the player of the match award for his batting performance. With this win, Hobart has jumped to the fourth position in the points table. Sydney is still in the first position with two wins in three matches.
