The auction for the 12th edition of the IPL which took place at Jaipur on December 18 saw a total of 60 players including 20 overseas cricketers roped in by different franchises to strengthen their squads for the upcoming edition of the tournament. The trading window however is still open and will remain so till 30 days prior to the start of the 2019 season. Indian all rounder Jayant Yadav has been traded by the Delhi Capitals (formerly known as the Delhi Daredevils) to the Mumbai Indians (MI) for forthcoming edition of the competition.
The off spinner, who has been a part of the Delhi based franchise since 2015, is all set to play for three time IPL winners Mumbai under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the upcoming edition of the tournament. The 28 year old has played only 10 games for the Delhi Daredevils (DD) across the past 3 seasons picking up only 4 wickets.
The offie however did not feature in any of DD’s games last season which makes it a good decision on part of the franchise to release him. The Haryana all rounder, who recently represented India in the Emerging Teams Cup in Colombo, will be keen to pile his trade for his new franchise.
Jayant is a utility player who can be effective with both bat and ball. Although Mumbai already have two good all rounders in Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya, the addition of Jayant would provide an excellent back up option for the Rohit Sharma led side. The availability of Jayant would also strengthen the middle order consisting of the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard and the Pandya brothers.
Jayant became the second player to be traded by the Mumbai Indians after South African wicketkeeper batsman Quinton De Kock from RCB earlier in the year. The Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, had traded three players – Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar and Shahbaz Nadeem to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Shikhar Dhawan ahead of the IPL 2019 Auction.
