COD: Mobile was announced and released in the year 2019. Call Of Duty had already been a major franchise in the industry. Like many others, Activision was also gunning to introduce its own game in the mobile gaming world. At the heights of PUBG’s popularity, COD: Mobile came in as a world-class competitor. One which already had a pre-established position in the gaming world.
What happened next was kind of predictable. COD: Mobile became the second-best fps mobile game in no time. Especially in PUBG best market places like India itself. By October of 2020, COD: Mobile had generated over $400 Million in revenue. It had also secured over 200 million downloads by then.
This game allowed squads of 5-6, unlike PUBG which could only allow a squad of 4 people. More and more people began choosing it as an alternative. Even though its Battle Royal wasn’t as attractive as PUBG’s, COD: Mobile had other modes which drew sharp attention. Deathmatches, Hardpoint, Free For All, Domination, and so many others. The intense gunfights and powerful interaction between teams were what gave it the edge.
The unique feature of scorestreaks where you can summon airstrikes or literal nukes on the enemy team was so flashy, it was amazing. So, the game became engraved in the mobile phone world, just as much as it was in the PC world. And like any game that becomes famous, E-Sports competitions also became a thing. So here’s all you need to know about COD: Mobile World Mobile Championship.
World Championship
In 2020, the first-ever COD: Mobile World Championship was announced and organized. In partnership with Sony, Activision organized a prize pool of over $1 Million. This also included in-game accessories, skins, characters, and whatnot.
The nature of the championship was quite open. Teams were drawn from all over the world through four online open qualifiers from April 20 to May 24. But to make sure the best came on top, only players with the rank of Veteran or higher were allowed. The game was strictly mobile and no cross-platform participation was allowed.
Regardless to say, the COD: Mobile World Championship was a huge success. And now, after the raging success of the first one, the World Championship is back. The championship is once again held by Activision and Sony. The first stage has already been cleared and now we advance onto the second stage. Here are the details.
COD: Mobile World Championship 2021
Stage 1 began on June 3rd. It was incredible to witness the many new and rookie teams playing to gain the ultimate prize. The matches took place over four weekends and the prizes included epic blueprints and the Manta Ray skin. However, the skins can only be unlocked if the player plays all of the ten matches.
To qualify for the second stage, teams needed at least 60 points from the said ten matches. How were the points determined? Based on the tier of the player, points were given per win with Legendary being the highest tier.
Stage 2 is team-based and will feature teams that qualified from the first stage. It started on July 1st and will go on until the 11th of July. The modes will be Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Search And Destroy, and Domination. To qualify for stage 3, a team needs to rank in the top 256 of their region.
