Conference League News: There isn’t much Jose Mourinho hasn’t won in his 22 years as a manager. But he had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on Thursday night.
After drawing 1-1 in the first leg of the Conference League semi-final against Leicester, Mourinho knew that a win at home would guarantee a spot in the competition’s inaugural final.
The Conference League is a new UEFA competition this season. Mourinho might be the first champion after Tammy Abraham’s first-half goal on Thursday. Abraham headed in Lorenzo Pellegrini’s free-kick in the 11th minute, exploiting Leicester’s set-piece frailty once more.
After the win, Mourinho, who took over at Roma in May of last year, was overcome with emotion as he embraced his coaching staff.

Fans might have assumed the ‘Special One’ had no interest in the league after winning so much. But he was extremely distraught and began crying at full time against Leicester.
He later revealed the reason behind his emotions after the final whistle. As reported by the Daily Mail, he said: “Why did I shed a tear? Because I feel what they all feel. It’s a giant club without a trophy room for the social importance of this club. I know what it means to these people and my emotion was for them. I’ve been lucky enough to be in more prestigious finals but this made me feel very special.“
Roma will now face Feyenoord in the final on May 25 in Tirana, Albania, after they defeated Marseille 3-2 on aggregate.
With his victory over Leicester, Jose Mourinho became the first manager to reach the finals of the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League – and he has a chance to win all three.

Mourinho however, feels that his ‘good friend Carletto’ should win the Champions League final against Liverpool.
He said: ‘If you allow me a message for a coach who is my friend, the great Carletto, let’s both go and win the finals!’
With this message, who knows, both the legendary managers could lift the trophy with their respective sides this month.
