BAN VS IND: Injured Rohit Sharma Out Of Dhaka Test Squad

BAN VS IND: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the second Test against the Bangladesh cricket team starting on 22nd December in Mirpur. Sharma missed the first Test in Chattogram and now will also miss the second Test in Dhaka. He will no longer be travelling to Dhaka.

In his absence, vice-captain KL Rahul will lead the team in the second and final Test of the series which currently India is leading 1-0.

The update about Rohit’s unavailability was shared on Monday 19th December, after it was discovered that the skipper’s thumb, which was injured during the second ODI of the ongoing Bangladesh tour, has not yet fully healed. He is suffering from a little bit of stiffness, thus he is unfit to play currently.

Considering the important forthcoming engagements for the men in blue, the BCCI, the selection committee and the team management have decided not to risk Sharma at this stage.

BAN VS IND: As per reports, Rohit Sharma is in a position to bat in the upcoming Test, however, there are concerns over the risk involved while fielding. The medical team and the team management believe that the injury can get serious on the field if he gets hurt again on that thumb.

KL Rahul was asked about the likelihood of Rohit’s availability for the second Test, to which he said he was still waiting for the details.

During a press conference after the first Test on Sunday, KL Rahul said, “We may be able to know in the next day or two, even I am not aware of it.”

That makes us immediately wonder if he will be available for the white ball series (three T20Is and three ODIs) against Sri Lanka that starts on January 3.

Rohit Sharma suffered an injury to his thumb while attempting a catch in the slips in the second ODI. Post this, the BCCI medical team had assessed him after which he was rushed to Mumbai for treatment on December 7. He is currently in Mumbai undergoing treatment since then.

Interestingly, Rohit’s absence has solved a major selection dilemma for the team management ahead of the second Test since otherwise the decision on the player to leave out would not have been easy.

India outlasted Bangladesh in the first Test by 188 runs. Shubman Gill scored his maiden Test century while fellow opener KL Rahul too performed well with the bat.

The Indian team has arrived in Dhaka from Chattogram for the upcoming second test this Monday morning. In the following two days, the men in blue will practice in Dhaka ahead of the second Test which starts on Thursday, 22nd December.
