BBL: Steve Smith demonstrated his strength to Australian selectors with a magnificent Big Bash hundred for the Sydney Sixers. Despite being absent from all but one game of last year’s T20 World Cup, his inning was massive.
The Coffs Harbour boundaries may have been short and particularly square. But it didn’t matter because the Australian superstar easily passed them on his route to a 56-ball century against the Adelaide Strikers.
His second T20 century of the season and his first in the KFC BBL He was run out in the next over due to a mix-up, with Sixers captain Moises Henriques returning for a second run.
One of Smith’s seven shots to cross the boundary in his 101 from 56 balls. The amazing slog stroke six over square leg off Strikers off-spinner Ben Manenti fell a thousand people deep in a sold-out Coffs Harbour audience of 9576.
His first hundred (101 from 54) came seven years earlier for Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016. It made his greatest T20 score. In addition, he ended a 12-year curse for the Sydney Sixers by becoming the team’s first male centurion following seven prior victories in the 1990s.
Steve Smith remarked after his stroke that he was simply delighted to perform his job for the squad and helped the Sixers achieve a massive total of 5-203, their fourth-highest total of all time.
Steve Smith On His Innings:
The team comes first, not myself, he said during the Fox Cricket broadcast. “I was just thrilled to be able to get our innings off to a solid start and record a good total.” It was a decent wicket. He averages 20 fewer runs per innings at the international scale than the 50-over form and 35 fewer than Tests. But has nearly unmatched production in the two lengthier forms (12 ODI hundreds and 30 Test hundreds).
He participated in Australia’s record-breaking T20 World Cup victory in the UAE in November 2021. However, Tim David of the Hurricanes took his spot for the world championship on home soil a year later. Smith only played in Australia’s last World Cup match against Afghanistan. He said he hadn’t given much attention to his T20 international career despite recent failures.

Before making his comeback for the Sixers last week, Steve Smith stated, “There aren’t a lot of T20 internationals. Thus for me, Test and one-day cricket are the main priority with what’s popping up. And then we’ll wait and see.”
“I’m trying not to think too far ahead. I’m very thrilled to be back here with the Sixers, though. I’ve been connected with the Sixers since the inaugural Big Bash. So it’s nice to be back with so many familiar characters. I truly like playing with these people.”
In his current position at the top of the order. Though, his two performances of 36 (27) and 101 have undoubtedly given Australian selectors something to think about.
