There is still no confirmation on who will be India’s wicketkeeper for World Cup 2023. KL Rahul has been India’s wicketkeeper for a couple of years now.
The Bengaluru-born has well and truly enjoyed the dual role of a wicketkeeper-batsman. He drew plaudits for his batting and wicketkeeping traits so far in limited-overs cricket.
The World Cup is around the corner and it remains to be seen who will be the first-choice wicketkeeper for Indian cricket Team. In fact, Ishan Kishan has justified his selection as a wicketkeeper-batsman so far.
The cricket fraternity is well aware of the fact that Ishan Kishan has been the most preferred wicketkeeper-batsman for India in limited-overs cricket.
The selectors tried to experiment with Ishan Kishan as a wicketkeeper-batsman in KL Rahul’s absence. KL Rahul has been away from action for a brief period.
He was ruled out midway through the IPL 2023 tournament. However, he underwent surgery before going through months of rehabilitation phase.

Who is going to be India’s wicketkeeper for World Cup 2023?
Now, the question is who is going to be India’s wicketkeeper for the mega event? Ishan Kishan has been in impressive form as a wicketkeeper for India. He scored four fifties in the last five ODIs. This goes to show that he has been in pretty decent touch with the bat. Besides that, he also kept the wickets properly.
KL Rahul made a grand comeback in the Asia Cup 2023. He announced his arrival in style by scoring a stellar century against Pakistan in the continental event.
KL Rahul also scored 39 runs against Sri Lanka in India’s second game of the Super 4 stage. India qualified for the Asia Cup 2023 final.
At the post-match presentation, KL Rahul was asked about the dual role. To which, he responded, “I have been keeping wicket for a long time, more than two years now actually.”
KL Rahul’s statement gives us a hint that he will be India’s wicketkeeper for World Cup 2023. Moreover, the selectors will always go with experience and hence KL Rahul will most likely be India’s wicketkeeper for World Cup.
“So it’s not new for me, and the team management has told me that this would be my role in the squad – to play in the middle order and keep wicket. Earlier, I’d work mostly on my batting. But this time I had enough time to work on my keeping. Hopefully, I can do both roles well,” he added in a statement.
