Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 league. The edition is coming to an end with Qualifier 2 to be played and the IPL will have their second finalist. IPL has all the elements of drama, thriller, funny moments and Controversies. This season of IPL was full of controversies and the most recent one is the “Mango Controversy”.

In the eliminator of IPL 2023, LSG vs MI, Lucknow Supergiants had a massive defeat of 81 runs. Since then LSG muted “mango”, “sweet”, and “Aam” words after fans trolled Naveen-ul-Haq. The mango controversy started when the LSG’s pacer Naveen took a dig upon the RCB player Virat Kohli when they played against MI. Everyone is aware of the Spat between Virat Kohli and Naveen-Ul-Haq, the mango controversy in IPL started after that.

After a heated argument between Virat and Naveen in the LSG vs RCB match. Naveen posted a story on his Instagram with the caption Sweet mangoes during the RCB League match against MI. He posted that story just after the wicket of Virat Kohli with mangoes.

However, after yesterday’s loss, the fans started mocking him and posted pictures of mangoes on LSG posts. The mango controversy in IPL didn’t stop there the MI players also posted a picture with mangoes.

The MI player Sandeep posted on his Instagram with the caption “sweet mangoes” with two other teammates Vishnu Vinod and Kumar Kartikey. 3 of them were sitting and looking at the mangoes kept on the table and imitating the maximum of the three wise monkeys. The post is now has been deleted by the player.

IPL 2023 CONTROVERSIES:

1. The Slow Overs Controversy:

In this edition of IPL, there were numerous slow rates fines. The total number of 8 to 10 teams has been fined with the slow over rate. RCB has paid the slow over-rate fines two times in this tournament. Virat Kohli was fined INR 24 Lakhs for the second time along with the RCB team. The team along with the impact player, was fined 6 lakhs or 25% of match fees whichever is less.

2. Spat b/w Hritik Shokeen & Nitish Rana:

In the league match of KKR vs MI, there was some argument between Nitish Rana and Hritik. Both the players play for Delhi but the cold blood for each was seen in the league match. Nitish Rana was out and after the dismissals, Hritik said something to Nitish. The argument was stopped by Piyush Chawala and Umpires, which later turned into another controversy in IPL. Nitish was fined INR 25 lakhs for a Level 1 Offense. On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians (MI) player Hritik, was fined 100% of the match fees.

3. Dhoni- Time Wasting Controversy in IPL:

It was the first qualifier of the IPL 2023, GT vs CSK. Chennai was Bowling in the second innings and the incident happened just before the 15th over. The CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana was all set to bowl his second over. However, the Umpires interrupted and didn’t allow Pathirana to bowl because of his absence from the field for a particular time. Then there was a discussion between the captain of CSK and the Umpires for 4 minutes which delayed the match. Later on after a discussion with the Umpires, they allowed Pathirana to bowl. This incident took a turn into another IPL controversy of 2023 and experts are saying MSD was desperate and wasted the time initially.

4. The spat b/w Virat & Naveen:

The Spat between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq is the biggest IPL controversy of 2023. It was the League match of LSG vs RCB, at the home ground of Lucknow. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) dominated the game from the very first ball. There were some exchanges of words between Virat and Naveen which later took an ugly turn. Both the players including the mentor of LSG were having a heated argument after the match.

The mango controversy in IPL originated just after that incident between the players.
For that fight, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined 100% of their match fees. On the other hand, Naveen was fined with 50% of match fees.

5. Venue Controversy:

It’s not always the players and teams who create the controversy in IPL. But this time it’s BCCI for the venue controversy before the start of IPL 2023. The BCCI’s decision to schedule IPL matches in cities with high population levels has come under fire from environmental activists.
