Just a head of IPL 2012 the legendary Sachin Tendulkar decided to step down from the captaincy of Mumbai Indians. Harbhajan Singh, Tendulkar’s second-in-command, was selected as MI captain by the management. After Tendulkar cited the need to “take a break” to MI captain as a reason. Mumbai’s best result during Tendulkar’s four years at the helm came in the 2010 tournament when they reached in the Finals against CSK.

“Sachin Tendulkar, in discussion with the management of Mumbai Indians, has decided to hand over the responsibilities of captaining Mumbai Indians in season five of the IPL to ace off spinner Harbhajan Singh.,” a media release from the franchise stated.

Sachin Tendulkar before resigning as MI captain said in a press release. “At this point of time, I feel I need a break from the responsibility of captaincy of the Mumbai Indians,.” Tendulkar was quoted as saying in the release. “After due consideration, I discussed my intention to hand over the captaincy of the team to Harbhajan Singh, with Mukesh bhai and Nita bhabhi.”

In IPL 2012, Mumbai Indians (MI) showed a new spirit and determination in their new captain Harbhajan Singh. The confidence was also reflected in their performance on the field. He leads by example and supervises bowling attacks and youth with his knowledge and skills. Harbhajan’s strategic skills were also on display as he deftly changed the team’s strategy and helped them turn the season around.

Harbhajan’s leadership skills were put to a crucial test against CSK. He led very well and took two wickets in a high-scoring game. The MI captain’s contribution in IPL 2012 helped limit Chennai to a score of under 173. Despite the courage of Dwayne Smith and Sachin Tendulkar, the Mumbai Indians scored 135 runs. Harbhajan Singh’s captaincy of the Mumbai Indians in 2012 was an important moment in the team’s history. It was the first time the team was led by someone other than Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin was the captain of MI from the start.

Harbhajan bravely stepped into the shoes of the MI captain and led the team with distinction. His aggression and offensive sharpness helped the team turn the season around. Despite being eliminated in the tournament, Harbhajan’s leadership laid the foundation for the team’s future success.

Since then, MI have won the title five times, making them one of the most successful teams in IPL history. The team is led by some of the biggest names in world cricket, including current MI Captain Rohit Sharma. He took over the captaincy from Ricky Ponting in 2013. The team is known for team leadership not from a player but from a person who has never been a leader before.
