Following the penultimate race of the 2022 season in Abu Dhabi on November 20, Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement from Formula 1.
After Aston Martin made a poor tactical decision, the German finished in P10 and earned one championship point. For the illustrious four-time world champion, the entire race weekend has been emotionally taxing.
Sebastian Vettel did a unique post-race interview following the podium finishers following the race and his famous burnout on the circuit. He talked about his final few years in the sport and how his final race left him feeling a little hollow.
Even though he wasn’t able to give his all for the Aston Martin F1 team, he valued and loved the positive experiences.
As Sebastian Vettel put it: “I’m afraid I don’t have much else to say. To be honest, after a busy weekend, I feel a little empty. But all I can do is reiterate what I’ve said before: Despite the fact that they may have been disappointing from a sports perspective, the past two years have been extremely fruitful and significant in my life. Many things that I came to realize.”
Sebastian Vettel also discussed how the sport influences millions of individuals in a variety of ways. He made the point that there are many more significant areas of life and the world that require attention than racing.
The German wants to inspire the next generation of racers to continue the sport. Finally, he expressed gratitude to everyone who had helped him, including the teams and the supporters.
According to an F1 commentator, Sebastian Vettel’s departure seems permanent
Numerous veteran drivers have competed in Formula 1 over the years. Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, and Kimi Raikkonen, among others, made triumphant comebacks to the sport.
Sebastian Vettel may not become a driver again after his final race in Abu Dhabi, according to veteran F1 driver and sports analyst Martin Brundle. He described how the four-time world champion’s departure seemed certain. Brundle declared:
“For him, it has been a lovely send-off. It has a sense of closure. There is nothing to imply that this is a brief farewell, but I’m sure others, like Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso, who returned, felt the same way.”
Martin Brundle also emphasized that nothing can be ruled out, even if it seems doubtful that Sebastian Vettel would return to the sport, as we’ve seen other older drivers make unexpected comebacks as well.
