Real Madrid will be looking to sell Eden Hazard this summer. However, the player is not keen to move away from the club. Rather he is looking to stay at Santiago Bernabeu for one more season. Hazard’s contract with Real Madrid expires in 2024.
According to Relevo, Hazard wants to stay at Real Madrid for one season. After that, he is considering retiring from football itself. The Belgian is only 32 years old. This is usually the age when players are at their peak. However, Hazard hasn’t been a player since his move to Real Madrid from Chelsea.
He has publicly stated that he wants to stay at Real Madrid as well. However, Los Blancos are keen to offload him. The Belgian has barely featured for Real Madrid in four years. This season he has hardly played but he is one of the highest earners at the club.
It remains what happens this summer. It would be truly sad to see Hazard retire so early. There is a likelihood of some offers from Arab leagues or MLS if Hazard decides to leave Real Madrid.
Real Madrid transfer plans for the summer
Currently, Los Blancos are planning to add Jude Bellingham this summer. There have been reports that Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid have agreed on a fee for the Englishman.
With Bellingham in the squad, Los Blancos could seem lessly transition from Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Casemiro to Federico Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Jude Bellingham, and Eduardo Camavinga. However, they will have to balance their books for that.
With Eden Hazard being of the biggest earners at the club, it will prove difficult for Real Madrid to keep both Hazard and Bellingham. With Hazard’s refusal to leave it only makes matters more difficult for Real Madrid. Not only Bellingham, but Los Blancos will also look to add another striker to add cover for Karim Benzema.
Presently in the Real Madrid squad, there is no player who can convincingly replace the Frenchman. Not only this Los Blancos have also been linked with a move to add more strength at the right back position.
Eden Hazard’s career at Real Madrid
The Chelsea superstar was signed by Florentino Perez to fill in the big boots of Cristiano Ronaldo. Hazard looked destined to achieve the same as well. He was by far the best player in the Premier League during his time in England like Ronaldo.
However, injury after injury occurred to him and he is just a shadow of himself. Despite being at Real Madrid for four years he has only played 53 games for the club. In those 53 games, he has only scored four goals for the club.
Despite his limited game time, Hazard has still managed to win big trophies. The former Lille winger has won La Liga, Copa Del Rey, Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Spanish super cup as well. He had a trophy-laden career with Chelsea and he has followed the suit in Spain.
He will also be happy with the fact that the Bernabeu crowd hasn’t turned up against him. To date, Hazard remains to be the most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history, and being an attacker he has just four goals in four years.
