Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag refused to pin the blame on David de Gea after the goalkeeper’s mistake cost the Red Devils their defeat to West Ham in Premier League.
Manchester United took on West Ham United in their most recent fixture. The Old Trafford outfit had gone into the fixture on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Brighton. Manchester United suffered that same fate in London as Said Benrahma’s goal for West Ham in the 27th minute separated the two sides.
It was David de Gea’s mistake that resulted in the only goal of the game. The Spanish goalkeeper somehow failed to save Said Benrahma’s rather feeble shot.
Speaking after the match, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag jumped to the defense of David de Gea and stressed that the Spaniard has the most clean sheets in Premier League this season.

Erik ten Hag: We want David de Gea to stay at Manchester United
“He has the most clean sheets in the Premier League. We would not be in this position without him,” Erik ten Hag said [via Metro] after Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham.
David de Gea’s current contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the current season. Despite his error against West Ham, Erik ten Hag insisted that they want De Gea to extend his contract with Manchester United.
“No concerns. It happens. As a team you have to deal with it, you have to show character and resilience and bounce back. We want him to stay and we want him to extend his contract.”
Manchester United’s defeat to West Ham has left the Premier League top-four race wide open. Manchester City sits atop the table and Arsenal occupies the second place in Premier League. Sitting third in the table is Newcastle United, who have 65 points from 34 matches.
Manchester United continue to occupy the fourth place with 63 points from 34 matches. But the Red Devils have Liverpool breathing down their neck. The Merseyside outfit sit fifth and have 62 points from 35 games.
Manchester United have a game in hand over fifth-placed Liverpool and they will be aiming to win it and extend their lead over the Reds to four points.
