Erik Ten Hag Says Manchester United Proved They Can Deal With Setbacks With Brighton Win

Erik ten Hag: What Manchester United have proved is we can deal with setbacks

Erik ten Hag said Manchester United proved that they can deal with and bounce back from setbacks with their FA Cup semi-final win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Manchester United headed into the game against Brighton & Hove Albion on the back of a disastrous 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final second leg that knocked them out of the competition. It was a terrible performance from Manchester United as Sevilla got the better of the Red Devils.

Manchester United delivered a far better performance against Brighton, and eventually edged the Seagulls out in the penalty shootout to seal their place in the FA Cup final.

Speaking to reporters after defeating Brighton, Erik ten Hag said Manchester United proved that they can deal with setbacks. He also described their defeat to Sevilla as their worst game of the season.

It was the worst game of the season in Sevilla. You can’t change it anymore but take the lessons for the future,” Erik ten Hag said [via GOAL].

What we’ve proved is we can deal with setbacks and bounce back between games, but now what we have to improve is bouncing back in a game, in difficult situations, in away stadiums, we have to show personality, carry on and stick to the plan.

Even if we played a bad game, there were opportunities on Thursday night to bounce back in that game and get back into it. If you can fight three days after a defeat, you can also do that in a game.

It’s just controlling your emotions, sticking together, and turning around the game. We are physically and mentally strong. We showed the character and personality to do that. I can tell you it’s not so easy but we did it. We were determined to win this game.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will face neighbours Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup. Manchester City booked their place in the FA Cup after defeating Sheffield United in the semi-final.

The FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City will kick off at 7:30 pm Indian Standard Time on June 3.

Erik Ten Hag and Co. will now turn their attention to the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils currently sit fourth in the Premier League table and are aiming for a top-four finish this season.
