Frank Lampard Confirms Chelsea Defender Kalidou Koulibaly Out For Weeks

Kalidou Koulibaly out for weeks, confirms Frank Lampard

Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that defender Kalidou Koulibaly will miss their games against both Brighton and Real Madrid.

Kalidou Koulibaly suffered an injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. He limped off the pitch in the 55th minute of that game and was replaced by Marc Cucurella.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League game against Brighton, Frank Lampard confirmed the defender will miss the upcoming game and the Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

Frank Lampard also said that Kalidou Koulibaly is out of action for weeks, which means he is set to miss more games.

No, he won’t be available for either game. A hamstring injury, it will be a matter of weeks rather than days,” Frank Lampard said [via Football.London] when asked if the defender will be available for Brighton or Real Madrid clashes.

When asked how much of a blow the injury to Kalidou Koulibaly is, Frank Lampard said: “He’s a very good, very experienced player. Albeit, people talk a lot about our squad but when you work and sometimes you haven’t got lots of covers and the Champions League squad is different from the Premier League squad.

It’s a disappointment for him and for us, but an opportunity and we carry on without him. Hopefully, he gets fit as quickly as he can.

Chelsea are without a win in their last five games, and Frank Lampard admitted that a win is very vital for them. He said: “It’s vital. I guess they all are. We’re not getting the results we want. You work towards the idea of turning a corner to make progress because of course things can affect confidence. It doesn’t take away from the difficulty of the game.

As vital as they all are, we’ll try our best to get the right result because we know what that might bring which is an uplift of confidence and feeling when Real Madrid comes so quickly afterwards.

Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager earlier this month after they sacked Graham Potter. The Blues have since played two games and suffered defeats in both.

The upcoming game against Brighton & Hove Albion is Chelsea’s first home fixture since they appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager.
