Frank Lampard Sets Unwanted Chelsea Record After Defeat to Real Madrid

Chelsea have lost all four games they have played since Frank Lampard became their interim manager

Frank Lampard has become the holder of an unwanted record after Chelsea fell to a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

Real Madrid knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League in the quarter-final stage with a 4-0 aggregate win over the Premier League side. It has all but ended Chelsea’s 22/23 season, with the Blues set to finish the campaign without any silverware.

Chelsea have had an underwhelming and disappointing campaign so far in the 22/23 season. Despite their heavy spending in the transfer markets, the West London outfit have failed to live up to the expectations.

Chelsea have also already sacked two managers – Thomas Tuchel in September 2022 and Graham Potter in April this year – and recently appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager for the remainder of the season.

However, Frank Lampard has not been able to turn things around for Chelsea. The Blues have lost all four games they have played since Lampard became their interim manager.

In the process, Frank Lampard has become the first Chelsea manager to lose each of their first four games in charge of the club.

Chelsea’s first game since the club appointed Frank Lampard on an interim basis was against Wolves, and the Blues slumped to a 1-0 defeat in that game. The West London outfit then squared off with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg and suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Spanish behemoths.

Chelsea’s next game was against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. Although Chelsea scored first in that game, an impressive Brighton side pulled off a comeback to defeat the Blues 2-1.

Their fourth game since Frank Lampard took charge of the club for the remainder of the season came against Real Madrid in the second leg of the UCL quarter-final. Real Madrid, once again, inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Chelsea.

Chelsea currently languishes at 11th in the Premier League points table and they are set to finish outside the top six in the English top flight this season. The Blues will now be aiming to end their season on a positive note.
