FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that he recently met with Jorge Messi, the father of Lionel Messi.
The Barcelona president revealed that he and Jorge Messi talked about the FIFA World Cup 2022, which Lionel Messi-led Argentina won. Joan Laporta also revealed that they talked about a tribute match for Lionel Messi, who left Barcelona in the summer of 2021.
Lionel Messi left Barcelona after his contract expired in 2021. The Argentine wanted to stay at Barcelona, but the Catalan outfit could not keep him at the club due to ‘financial and structural obstacles.’
Messi has already entered the final four months of his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain. He is due to be out of contract at the end of June and has not yet agreed on a contract extension with PSG.

Joan Laporta refused to talk about a transfer move for Lionel Messi as the Argentine currently plies his trade for Paris Saint-Germain. But he also did not rule out the possibility of a sensational return to Camp Nou for Messi.
“I met Jorge Messi yes,” Joan Laporta said. “We talked about the World Cup and a tribute match for Leo. He’s at PSG right now, so I don’t want to speak about whether or not he could return.”
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has been impressive for Paris Saint-Germain in the ongoing 22/23 campaign. After enduring a rather underwhelming 21/22 season with PSG, Messi has looked back to his best this season.
The Argentine has already racked up 18 goals and 16 assists in 29 games across all competitions for PSG so far this season. He has been one of PSG’s best performers in the current campaign.
Lionel Messi also won the FIFA World Cup 2022 title with Argentina. He starred for the South American nation at Qatar 2022 as they lifted the coveted trophy.
It remains to be seen what decision Messi will take with regards to his club’s future. Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami have also been mooted as a potential destination for Messi. Inter Miami manager Phil Neville has already confirmed the club’s interest in signing the Argentine icon.
Lionel Messi could also extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain, but only time will tell what he ultimately decides.
