Jose Mourinho Eyeing Return to Premier League

Jose Mourinho interested in return to his former club Chelsea

Jose Mourinho is eyeing a return to England and his ideal scenario is becoming the Chelsea manager for the third time, according to a report in Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho, who is widely considered to be among the greatest managers of all time, is currently the head coach of Serie A outfit AS Roma. The Portuguese manager became the AS Roma manager in 2021 and guided the Italian side to the UEFA Conference League title in the 21/22 season.

Daily Mail reports that Jose Mourinho is eager to return to Premier League amid frustration at the lack of financial backing from AS Roma. Roma currently sits sixth in the Serie A points table, with 37 points from 19 matches. They trail table-toppers Napoli by 13 points.

The English outlet reports that a return to the Stamford Bridge outfit would be his ideal scenario and that the Portuguese tactician’s representatives have already let it be known that the 60-year-old would be interested in any vacancy at the Premier League club.

However, Chelsea have reportedly made it clear to Jose Mourinho’s representatives that they intend to stand by Graham Potter, despite the club’s struggles in the ongoing 22/23 season.

Chelsea appointed Graham Potter after parting ways with Thomas Tuchel earlier in the 22/23 season. However, after a bright start to Graham Potter’s stint as the Chelsea manager, the Blues are struggling with a slump in form.

Chelsea currently languishes at 10th in the Premier League points table despite their heavy spending in the transfer market. The west London outfit have 29 points from 20 matches in the English top-flight so far this season. But they trail table-toppers Arsenal by 21 points.

Arsenal, who sit atop the Premier League points table, have 50 points from 19 matches.

Meanwhile, Daily Mail also reports that Jose Mourinho has always preferred working in the Premier League to elsewhere and that the Portuguese manager’s wife and children still live in London.

Jose Mourinho was previously linked with the role of Portugal’s national football team manager after they parted ways with Fernando Santos after their exit from FIFA World Cup 2022. However, Mourinho has since confirmed he rejected the offer of the job, which has since been taken by Roberto Martinez.
