Mateo Kovacic: Frank Lampard’s Chelsea Return is ‘Good News’

Mateo Kovacic: It’s good news that Frank Lampard is back at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has said that it is good news that Frank Lampard has returned to the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Chelsea have appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager until the end of the season. Lampard has returned to Chelsea after the Blues sacked Graham Potter earlier this month following their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend and has previously managed the West London outfit. He was the Chelsea manager between July 2019 and January 2021. After parting ways with Lampard in January 2021, Chelsea appointed Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked earlier this season and replaced with Graham Potter, who now Lampard replaces.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mateo Kovacic said it is good news that Frank Lampard is back at Chelsea and trying to change their season.

Mateo Kovacic also admitted that it has not been a good season for Chelsea. He also said Chelsea players are also responsible for the situation the club finds itself in.

We know him, he was our coach. It’s good news that he is back and trying to change our season, because it’s not been good. We need to be honest with ourselves,” Mateo Kovacic told Sky Sports [via GOAL].

In the end it is easier to sack a coach than 30 players, but it’s on us as well. We need to do better and say thank you to Potter, who was here and did a good job. It is not easy when many changes are here, so it was a bad situation for him as well.

Meanwhile, Chelsea currently sits 11th in the Premier League points table, with 38 points from 28 matches. They will take on Wolves in the English top flight in their next game.

Chelsea will then square off with Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final. The Blues will be aiming to defeat Real Madrid in the quarter-final and stay in contention to win the Champions League. However, they would need to up their game if they are to get the better of Real Madrid, the defending Champions League winners.

Meanwhile, the match between Chelsea and Wolves will kick off at 7:30 pm Indian Standard Time on April 8.
