Arsenal and Liverpool played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Anfield in a Premier League fixture, and Mikel Arteta said the result was ‘fair’.
Arsenal, who are leading the race for the Premier League title, blew a two-goal lead at Anfield as Liverpool came from behind to earn a point from the fixture. Liverpool could have won the game late in the game but failed to convert the chances they had.
Arsenal opened the scoring through Gabriel Martinelli in the eighth minute of the match before Gabriel Jesus doubled their lead in the 28th minute. However, Mohamed Salah halved Liverpool’s deficit in the 42nd minute before Roberto Firmino restored parity in the 87th minute. In between those two goals, Mohamed Salah missed a penalty as his effort from the spot went wide off the target.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Mikel Arteta admitted Arsenal lost control of the game after half-time. He also conceded Liverpool could have scored three or four goals but stressed a draw was a fair result.

Mikel Arteta: In the end, the result of the Liverpool vs Arsenal match is fair
“Wow. A really intense game,” Mikel Arteta said [via Metro]. “We started brilliantly, controlled the game, and scored the first goal and the second goal was a beautiful action.
“The game was under control until we conceded a really sloppy goal. Then the game changed the momentum.
“We lost control after halftime, lost far too many simple balls and it became a very open and chaotic game which they love.
“They could have scored three or four, missed a penalty and Aaron made a couple of great saves.
“But we had some big breakaways and could have scored two or three. In the end, the result is fair.”
Arsenal remains top of the Premier League points table but the 2-2 draw against Liverpool has further blown the title race wide open. Arsenal have 73 points from 30 matches in the Premier League so far this season. They enjoy a six-point lead over second-placed Manchester City, who are also the defending champions. But Manchester City have a game in hand.
Arsenal’s destiny remains in their own hands, but it remains to be seen how the 2-2 draw at Anfield would look at the end of the season – a point earned or two dropped?
