Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he wants to continue working with Ilkay Gundogan beyond the current campaign amid rumours linking the midfielder with a move away from the Premier League side.
Ilkay Gundogan’s current contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the season. No decision has yet been made on whether he will stay at the club beyond the 22/23 campaign.
Ilkay Gundogan has been linked with a move to Barcelona on a free transfer after this season. But speaking after Manchester City defeated Leeds United 2-1 in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola said he wants to continue working with Gundogan.
Pep Guardiola also praised Ilkay Gundogan for his performance against Leeds United. Although he did miss a penalty, it was Gundogan who scored Manchester City’s both goals in the game.

Pep Guardiola on Ilkay Gundogan’s contract situation: “The club knows my opinion”
Speaking to reporters, Pep Guardiola said the club knows his opinion on Ilkay Gundogan’s contract situation. The Manchester City manager said [via Manchester Evening News]: “I said about the contract, the club is involved and knows my opinion. They are above me, we take the decision together, good and bad.
“It’s not necessary if he scored two incredible goals, how good he played today, reading the spaces, he has everything – incredible run in the final third, how intelligent he is… It’s not necessary to score two goals to know exactly how I like this player and enjoy working with him and how I’d like to work with him in the future.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City are leading the race for the Premier League title. They sit top of the Premier League table with 82 points from 34 matches. They enjoy a four-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who have 78 points from 34 matches.
With just four games, Manchester City’s Premier League title destiny is in their own hands.
Manchester City also remain in contention for the FA Cup and Champions League titles. In the FA Cup, Manchester City will take on Manchester United in the final of the competition.
