Real Madrid interested in Enzo Fernandez transfer

Real Madrid are interested in the transfer of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The Argentina international has become one of the most in-demand players in Europe following his excellent performances at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022.

The 21-year-old midfielder has featured in five World Cup games so far, registering one goal and one assist. Fernandez has also impressed with his performances for Benfica since joining from River Player last summer.

He has played 24 games (in all competitions) for the Portuguese club so far, recording three goals and five assists. Fernandez won the Primeira Liga Midfielder of the Month award in August 2022.

Carlo Ancelotti has identified the midfield as an area that needs reinforcements next summer. The Blancos’ first-choice midfielders Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are in the twilight of their respective careers. Real Madrid cannot afford to depend on them for long.

The Spanish giants are monitoring the performances of the Argentina international at the FIFA World Cup. They could make a move to sign Enzo Fernandez during next summer’s transfer window.

However, Benfica are demanding a transfer fee of close to £100 million to sell their prized asset. It remains to be seen if Carlo Ancelotti is willing to pay that sort of sum for a relatively inexperienced player.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is another midfielder who has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu Stadium recently. However, Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to secure his services.
