Roberto Firmino Plans to Use FIFA World Cup Snub as Motivation

Roberto Firmino admits frustration at Brazil World Cup snub

Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino admitted that his omission from Brazil’s FIFA World Cup 2022 squad was ‘frustrating’ and says he plans to use it as a motivation and insisted he will work hard to find a way back into the national team.

Roberto Firmino was largely impressive for Liverpool in the first half of the 22/23 season, with the Brazilian scoring nine goals and registering four assists for the Reds in 21 appearances.

Seven of his nine goals came in the Premier League, where he has made 13 appearances for Liverpool in the 22/23 season. He is also Liverpool’s Premier League top scorer in the 22/23 season.

However, Tite did not include Roberto Firmino in the Brazil national football team squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022 – a decision that surprised many, including Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Of course it was frustrating not being called up to the World Cup but as I’ve said before that’s part of God’s plan and I am following God’s plan,” Roberto Firmino said.

It really does motivate me more and more not having gone to the World Cup so I will work hard to get back into the Selecao.

Meanwhile, Liverpool resumed their Premier League game after winter break with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Stefan Bajcetic scored the goals for Liverpool as they earned all three points. Ollie Watkins scored Aston Villa’s only goal of the game.

Roberto Firmino missed the game against Aston Villa due to an injury, but is expected to return to action when Liverpool face Brentford in the Premier League in their first match of 2023.

Meanwhile, Liverpool currently occupy the sixth position in the Premier League points table. The Merseyside outfit, who had a below-par start to the season, have 25 points from 15 matches in the English top-flight this season. They trail table-toppers Arsenal by 15 points.
