'Wounded' Real Madrid are Much More Dangerous, Quique Setien Warns Villarreal

Quique Setien Villarreal manager has confessed he wished Real Madrid had won the Spanish Super Cup final match against FC Barcelona.

FC Barcelona secured the Spanish Super Cup title after defeating Real Madrid in the final. The El Clasico rivals squared off in the final, and Barca inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Real Madrid to lift the Spanish Super Cup.

Barcelona established a two-goal cushion in the first-half, courtesy of goals from Gavi and Robert Lewandowski. The Catalan outfit then made it 3-0 through Pedri later in the second-half. Real Madrid would pull one back through Karim Benzema in the injury time as the Frenchman scored a consolatory goal.

The defeat to Barcelona was Real Madrid’s second in their last three games. Carlo Ancelotti and co. had earlier fallen to a 2-1 defeat to Villarreal in La Liga.

‘Wounded’ Real Madrid are Much More Dangerous, Quique Setien Warns Villarreal

Real Madrid will have the opportunity to avenge defeat when they face Villarreal in the Copa del Rey round-of-16 in their next game.

Speaking ahead of the match, Villarreal manager Quique Setien revealed he wished Real Madrid had won the Spanish Super Cup final beating Barcelona. Quique Setien warned Villarreal that Real Madrid are wounded now and that they are much more dangerous.

I prefer that Real Madrid had won the previous day. You know that it rarely happens that Real Madrid loses two games in a row and that is now a handicap. I don’t pay attention to the fact that they are in a bad moment or tired, they will surely come to win,” Quique Setien said [via Managing Madrid].

They will be better due to the conditions, they are wounded and we know that a wounded animal is much more dangerous,” Quique Setien.

Meanwhile, Villarreal will be aiming to once again get the better of Real Madrid and seal their place in the next stage of Copa del Rey. The match between the two sides kicks off at 1:30 am Indian Standard Time on January 20.

Villarreal, meanwhile, sits fifth in the La Liga point table. They have 28 points from 17 matches in the Spanish top flight so far this season and are 11 points behind table-toppers Barcelona.

Villarreal trails second-placed Real Madrid by eight points. Real Madrid, who are also the defending La Liga champions, have 28 points from 16 matches.
