FPL is at last back. Due to the tragic passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the Premier League’s gameweek 7 action was postponed. The iconic Westminster Palace will host the Royal Funeral on September 17.
London is where the funeral will be held. The Premier League rescheduled the two games that were supposed to take place in London. Since just 7 of the scheduled 10 games are going place this weekend, FPL managers will have some trouble choosing their teams.
With only 7 teams playing, many FPL managers will be confused regarding their teams. The confusion will go higher in midfield, especially with many performing midfielders like Rashford Sterling won’t be involved in this week’s action.
Everyone in charge of an FPL team, relax; we’re here to assist you. Here are our top three midfielder recommendations for your Fantasy Premier League teams.
3 Picks for FPL Gameweek 8: Midfielders
Son Heung-Min (Spurs)
One of 1st picks for this week’s FPL team in midfield should be Spurs Heung Min Son. Though Son only has one assist to his name so far in 6 games he has been very unlucky in the initial few games of the season.
He has generated 13 opportunities and 15 shots with anticipated assists (xA) of 0.95 and expected goals (xG) of 1.95 respectively. He is a dependable FPL asset, and judging on his offensive performances throughout the years and his numbers, we can expect him to perform well again soon.
Another reason to prefer Son is Spurs are playing Leicester at home in GW8. The Foxes are currently bottom of the table with just one point. They have been terrible this season defensively. Leicester has conceded 16 goals in just 6 games so far. On the other hand, Conte Spurs have been good in the final third and have scored 12 goals so far.
So with Spurs facing Leicester City, it is the perfect opportunity for Son to start scoring and also proving an assist. FPL managers with a limited amount of options available it will be worth giving a shot and picking Son up for this GW8.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
Kevin De Bruyne is just phenomenal. He has been the heart of Manchester City’s midfield. KDB has the unique ability to find spaces that nobody can imagine. We have seen abilities in the midfield where he can create a goal-scoring opportunity out of nothing.
This season too Kevin De Bruyne has had a good start. He has recorded 4 assists and one goal so far in 6 goals. He has an xG of 1.79 and has created 21 chances, with an xA of 3.66. KDB is also involved in Manchester City’s goals either directly by scoring or indirectly by assisting them. With the arrival of Haaland, KDB has become a provider to him and KDB – Haaland Duo is simply outstanding.
With Manchester City facing Wolves who are struggling defensively we definitely see goals for sure. Manchester City has scored 20 goals (first) already with an xG of 15.84 (first) and is also the favorite to score 2.5+ goals. Coming into his FPL stats he has recorded 35 points in 6 games almost averaging 6 points per game. Thus with City against Wolves KDB is ideal for your midfield in the gameweek 8 squads.
Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal)
Another choice FPL managers can pick for their midfielder is Arsenal Gabriel Martinelli. The Arsenal man has been in great form. He has scored 3 goals and has recorded one assist. He has registered an xG of 2.77 and an xA of 2.26. Martinelli has taken 20 shots in total with 8 being on target so far.
In Gameweek 8, Arsenal has a favorable opponent in Brentford. The Gunners will be optimistic about their prospects in this matchup since their opponents have let up nine goals against them and have an xGC of 10.3. In addition to scoring 14 goals, Mikel Arteta’s squad has an xG of 12.78, making them one of the league’s top offensive units. Martinelli should be chosen by FPL managers as their starting midfielder for FPL Gameweek 8 squads even if Arsenal is against an in-form Brentford side.
