Frank Lampard lauds Cristiano Ronaldo after winner vs Everton

Everton manager Frank Lampard lavished praise on Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese propelled Man Utd to a win over the Merseyside outfit in the Premier League.

Man Utd took on Everton in their previous match in the English top-flight and emerged victorious. The Red Devils defeated Everton 2-1 to make it five wins in eight matches in the league this season.

Against Man Utd, Alex Iwobi gave Everton the lead in the fifth minute with an absolute stunner. But Antony restored parity for Man Utd 10 minutes later. Ten Hag brought Ronaldo on in the 29th minute for the injured Antony Martial.

And, the 37-year-old fired a shot under Jordan Pickford and into the Everton net to send Man Utd 2-1 up on the stroke of half-time.

That goal would prove to be the winner as Everton failed to find an equalizer in the second half. Ronaldo’s goal was also the 700th of his club career.

Speaking after the match, Lampard heaped praise on Ronaldo. He labelled what Ronaldo has done as ‘outstanding’. Lampard also described Ronaldo as one of the greatest players that has graced the game.

It is just outstanding, isn’t it?” Lampard said. “He’s one of the greatest players that has graced the game in an era when we have had himself and Messi. The comparison doesn’t matter, they are just incredible players in football’s history.

The Everton manager added: “To be going and look as physically good as he looks, to keep scoring goals as he’s done, the numbers he has racked up have become normal, abnormal numbers become normal year after year, looking after himself in the right way. I don’t know him particularly well but you can do nothing but admire those numbers.

Lampard also revealed he had hoped Ronaldo would his find 700th goal of his club career when Man Utd took on Omonia in the Europa League last week.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s goal against Everton was also his first in the Premier League this season. He had gone goalless in the first six games he had featured for the Red Devils in the league this season.

Ronaldo will be hoping this can turn things around for him in a season he has struggled to deliver the goods so far. The Portuguese captain will be hoping to score many more goals and earn back his position in the Man Utd starting XI.

Man Utd move up to fifth in the EPL table

Meanwhile, with the win over Everton, Man Utd moved up to fifth in the points table. The Old Trafford outfit have 15 points from their first eight matches in the league this season.

Man Utd host Omonia in the Europa League group stage next. The Red Devils will be hoping to cruise to a comfortable victory over the Cypriot side.
