Liverpool News: Liverpool is known for giving opportunities to young players in their squad. Pep Lijnders, assistant manager of the Reds, has recently named three young players who will be part of the senior team in the near future. These three names are currently part of Liverpool’s youth academy. But according to Lijnders, they will be future stars of Anfield.
Liverpool is scheduled to face Arsenal for the second leg of the Carabao cup semi-final. Emirates Stadium will witness the clash of both teams to make a confirmed space in the finals. Their first leg ended up as a draw. This time both Arsenal and Liverpool will be trying hard to make it to the finals.
Alex Inglethorpe, Liverpool’s Academy Director, and Pep Lijenders had a detailed chat recently. Pep confirmed that he is pushing Klopp to give more opportunities to the young players from the academy rather than signing someone in the transfer window.
Lijnders also confirmed that Harvey Elliott won’t be part of the team against Arsenal. Elliot has returned to the training ground on Tuesday but he is still under observation because of his long-term ankle injury. However, Kaide Gordon will be making his appearance for the team against the Gunners.
Gordon, the 17-year-old winger, made headlines during his appearance in a match against Shrewsbury earlier this month. He helped the Reds to score an equalizer at the 34th minute of the match. Liverpool won that match by 4-1.
Pep was filling in for Klopp at the pre-match press conference. He said that every coach should constantly look for young players for the team. “This is just my personal opinion, but I think a coach should be judged much more on the young players he brings through,” said Pep.
Pep also named Bobby Clark, Luke Chambers, Stefan Bajcetic as their stand-out players in the youth academy. During an under 18 FA Youth Cup against Burnley, Pep mentioned that these three players played exceptionally well.
Liverpool recalls Williams from Swansea loan
In recent updates, Liverpool has called back their central back, Rhys Williams. The 20-year-old was on a loan with Swansea City. Williams was only able to make only seven appearances for the Championship club. The confirmation came from Swansea City as the club thanked him for his services.
The move took place in August and Williams showed his optimism to play regularly for his new club. “I am looking for regular football and I hope I can find that here,” said Liverpool’s young defender after the finalization of his deal in August.
However, things didn’t go as expected for Williams. He was not able to make regular appearances for the club. Williams will be happy to see himself back with the Merseyside as he has not made any appearance since December 4th. He was also involved in a racist incident during his time with Swansea City.
Another Liverpool player, midfielder Leighton Clarkson, has been sent back to Anfield from his disappointing run at Blackburn. Turns out, Williams is not the only loaned player to have a disappointing run.
