Meanwhile, in the latest development, a match-fixing attempt is currently being investigated in Lanka Premier League. The second edition of Sri Lanka’s premier T20 competition made the headlines for the wrong reason.
Sri Lanka’s own version of the Twenty20 league took place in December. As many as five teams took part in the competition that includes Sri Lanka and foreign players.
Meanwhile, the sports ministry’s corruption prevention unit launched a probe into an alleged attempt to fix games at the just-concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Jagath Fonseka, the head of the unit, remarked that a senior national batsman has filed a complaint with them. The senior batter didn’t keep the secret for a long time. As a result, he decided to inform the officials. He said he was approached for corruption.
However, the top player’s name is unknown as of now. It is good that the senior cricketer informed the officials regarding the corruption. Jagath Fonseka explained everything clearly while addressing the reporters.
“He told us that he had been approached by a rich gem businessman’s son and a friend of the same man to do so. We have concluded our and forwarded the papers for the Attorney General,” Fonseka told reporters.
Earlier, Jaffna Kings came through with flying colors in the competition. They got the better of Galle Gladiators in the final and won their title. Jaffna Kings won the game by 23 runs.
Notably, Avishka Fernando – Player of the Match. He played ever so well as he held his nerves and played an important role for Kaffna Kings in the final. Fernando scored 63 off 41 balls.
