LPL 2022: All the Test playing nations have already launched their respective franchise cricket league. However, one thing is certain. Fans have indeed enjoyed the T20 format more than any other format in the world.
In T20 cricket, there is always thrill and excitement. The nail-biting moments often happen in franchise cricket leagues which make the matches even more exciting, which in turn keeps the fans at the edge of the seats.
Recently, the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League came to a close. Now, another franchise cricket league is all set to entertain the fans for the next two months.
Guess what? It’s Sri Lanka’s premier T20 competition, Lanka Premier League (LPL). The island nation’s very own T20 competition has become a hit since its inception. Notably, it has successfully completed two seasons.
Now, it’s gearing up for the third edition where we can expect finest encounters. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed in an official statement that they would host LPL 2022 from July 31 to August 21.
The Sri Lanka’s cricket body confirmed the development on Friday (June 10). The T20 tourney comprises as many as five teams. Games will be held at the RPICS, Colombo, and the MRICS, Hambantota respectively.

Meanwhile, the official schedule for the same has not been released yet. However, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had confirmed that Colombo will host the initial games before the competition moves to Hambantota.
The board President Shammi Silva stated while officially confirming the dates for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League. He further added that they are quite happy to announce the dates for the upcoming season.
“We are extremely happy to announce the 3rd edition of the Lanka Premier League, which has started well its journey toward carving a place in the global T20 League competitions, as a formidable tournament,” he added.
Meanwhile, the official release stated that the tourney will feature as many as 24 matches. In fact, the registration of international cricketers for the player draft will kick off shortly.
Five teams that take part in the tournament are none other than Colombo Kings, Dambulla Viiking, Jaffna Stallions, Galle Gladiators, and Kandy Tuskers. The Jaffna Stallions won the inaugural edition by getting the better of Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in the final defeating the Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in the final.
Jaffna Stallions altered their name to Jaffna Kings for the 2021 season. They went to win their second successive LPL title by beating Galle Gladiators by 23 runs in the final.
