Spanish gaffer of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has hugely praised former Manchester City player and English international Raheem Sterling.
Manchester City signed Raheem Sterling in the summer of 2015 after paying £44 million to Liverpool. Within a few weeks, Sterling became one of the most important players for the Citizens.
The English international then won four English Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, five EFL Cups, and 1 FA Community Shield title with Manchester City. Sterling also played a huge part in Manchester City’s run to the UEFA Champions League final in the 2020/21 season.
Sterling spent seven seasons at Etihad and scored a staggering 131 goals from 339 appearances. Finally, the winger joined Chelsea last summer for a fee of £47.5 million.
Manchester City Gaffer Wants Sterling to Receive a Warm Reception
Now for the first time since Sterling joined Chelsea, the English international will face his former team Manchester City in their next Carabao Cup game.
Ahead of this marquee clash, his former manager Pep Guardiola has spoken about the transfer saga and also praised him.
“I cannot judge, the case happened with Zack Steffen in the Championship, Oleks, Gabby, Raheem, I wish all the best. My credit to all of them, this guy especially is immense, what they have done for the club. Hats off, I wish him all the best and hope he’s happy,” told Guardiola.
England’s crowds are usually known for their strong support of the home team and a hostile atmosphere for the away side. With Raheem Sterling’s recent exit from the club, many Manchester City supporters were not happy with the English international.
So when asked if he should get a big reception from the City fans, Pep Guardiola told, “I hope so, definitely hope so,”
English Premier League giants, Chelsea appointed Graham Potter just at the end of their summer transfer window to replace their Champions League-winning manager Graham Potter. Potter who has never managed a club like Chelsea had a strong start.
Under the former Brighton manager, Chelsea topped their UEFA Champions League group and qualified for the round of 16. However, Potter’s side suffered two back-to-back losses in the English Premier League which has now dented their chances to finish in the top four.
Manchester City manager Guardiola has now backed Potter and asked the Chelsea board to stick with the 47-year-old British manager who needs some time to settle all things.
