Manchester United News: Is Fred The Man To Solve United’s Midfield Woes?

Manchester United News: Is Fred The Man To Solve United's Midfield Woes?

Manchester United News: Ralf Rangnick is under the pump even without completing 10 games at the helm with Manchester United.

The German is well respected throughout the world, but recently his decisions have baffled many people.

The few questionable decisions include the reinstatement of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to the starting 11. The substitutions of Mason Greenwood, despite being the best player at times. The front two of Cavani and Ronaldo look immobile for the most part of the games.

Manchester United News: Is Rangnick at fault for United’s woes?

Manchester United News: Is Fred The Man To Solve United's Midfield Woes?

United looked full of energy in the German’s first game in charge. However, the energy has faded away since then and it’s a struggle.

It will be harsh, however, if we put all the blame on him. The former RB Leipzig manager tenure has been largely disrupted by a Covid-19 breakout so far. If he wants to implement such a radical change of system, he does need some time with the players amidst the reports of a dressing room crisis.

The problem at the club runs deep. The German will be blamed, but it’s more on the players now. They are some of the best players in the world and can’t put together a run of simple passes. The players lack the guts and tenacity to get the job done on a weekly basis.

The defeat at Wolves was coming for sure. The Red Devils escaped somehow with a draw against Newcastle, but Wolves turned out to be too hot for them. The team had no desire and lacked belief as they were playing one of the best teams on the planet, with no disrespect to wolves.

As the reports of disgruntled players wanting to leave come out, the pressure is immense on the manager. Rangnick will have to come up with big changes before it’s late for the club in their pursuit of Champions League football next season.

Is Fred the solution for midfield?

Manchester United News: Is Fred The Man To Solve United's Midfield Woes?

Fred may not be rated highly by the Old Trafford faithful and the United fans around the world, but his presence is needed in this team.

The Brazilian is not a world-class player, and we know it but his ability to win the ball back is crucial. The stats show his importance to this team as well.

United’s win percentage with Fred this season (W9 D4 L4) stands at 53%. Whereas without him (W3 D2 L4) it stands merely at 33%.

We might question the Brazilian’s ability to hold the ball, but his energy, tenacity, and ability to win the ball can’t be questioned at all.

It’s not just a few games we are talking about. The story last season was very similar. In the 2020/21 season, United’s win rate with Fred was 57% and the loss rate was 16 percent. Without him, those figures were 53% and 32%.

It is obvious that the Brazilian’s presence makes United better. The other reason to start him is simple, Rangnick doesn’t have many options available with him.

Scott McTominay plays blow hot and cold. The midfielder was dominant against Burnley. However, he followed it up by a ghostly performance against Wolves and got a yellow card.
