Manchester United are on the look-out for a suitable midfielder to replace veteran Michael Carrick who would be retiring at the end of the season. The Red Devils have apparently shortlisted a number of midfielders to approach during the summer transfer window with Jorginho being one of them.
Jorginho has played a pivotal role in Napoli’s fortunes this season as they are giving Juventus, a run for their money after closing in on the top position in the Serie A table.

The 26-year-old midfielder has managed to be one of the first picks for the side under manager Maurizio Sarri, whose arrival has brought in a fresh brand of attacking football.
Manchester United have not obtained the midfield consistency they desire with only Nemanja Matic performing to his potential. Recurring injuries to Ander Herrera and wobble in form for Paul Pogba has affected the Red Devils, with Jose Mourinho bringing over young Scott McTominay to heal the woes for the time being.
The imminent departures of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini spark an urgent need for a midfielder for the Red Devils this summer for the upcoming seasons. The agent of the heavily-linked Brazilian midfielder provided an update on the star’s future.
No initiative from Manchester United so far
Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos recently talked with Radio CRC, where he stated that the Old Trafford outlet are yet to contact them over a potential transfer and asserted that his client is an important asset to the club. He said:
‘With [Maurizio] Sarri, he has the privilege to play the football he prefers and, in the dressing room, he has become an important element after more than four years,’
The agent admits that the pursuit for Jorginho by big clubs is obvious considering the performances of the midfielder in the recent past. He stated: ‘My client is a good kid, he is focused on fighting for the Scudetto with his club and plays for one of the top national teams in the world… If a player like that isn’t on the radar of big clubs like Manchester United, then something is wrong.
Santos went on to deny any knowledge of Napoli’s life after Jorginho, after the Serie A side’s reported interest in Sampordia midfielder Lucas Torreira. He said:
‘I don’t know if Napoli are talking with Torreira’s agent. ‘I have spoken to [Napoli sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli three times in the last month and he hasn’t said anything. ‘I can say that no manager of Manchester United has done what Napoli are doing on the Torreira front.’
Author’s Take:
Manchester United’s pursuit for a midfielder is only a matter of time before it begins, considering the dire need for one at the club at the moment. Manchester United are probably considering their options before they move for the right player as this is a question of a long-term replacemen
