Gregg Popovich becomes the first coach in NBA history to reach 1,500 victories

NBA news: Coach Gregg Popovich became the only coach in NBA history to reach 1,500 victories with the Spurs’ win over the Rockets on Friday.

Regular-season and postseason victories are included in the total.

Popovich is only five victories away from breaking Don Nelson’s all-time regular-season record of 1,335 wins established by the former Bucks, Knicks, Mavericks, and Warriors coach.

Nelson was Popovich’s Golden State assistant. Popovich took over as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs in 1996, his first and only NBA position, and has never looked back.

Since then, he’s won five NBA championships, three times been voted NBA Coach of the Year, and guided Team USA to a gold medal in the 2020 Olympics.

From 1998 through 2019, Popovich, 73, led the Spurs to 22 consecutive playoff berths, surpassing Phil Jackson for the most consecutive seasons with a winning record. San Antonio has missed the past two postseasons and now finds itself as the No. 12 seed with a 20–34 record on the outside looking in.

When the Spurs meet the Cavaliers at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Popovich will seek to add to his record victory total.

To win games in the NBA, no matter how well a team is formed, it must have an equally good coach at the head. We’ve seen a lot of legendary instructors accomplish that job flawlessly throughout the years.

Gregg Popovich, the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, is unquestionably one of the finest to ever hold the position. He joined the Spurs as an assistant coach during the 1988-89 NBA season.

Popovich was promoted to head coach of the SAS after six seasons in that position. He is still the franchise’s head coach, and he has led the team to multiple NBA championships during his tenure. To be more specific, he has guided the squad to five championships.

Popovich is not only a good head coach in the playoffs. But he is also one of the finest throughout the regular season. In fact, he just won the 1330th game of his career against the Houston Rockets.

It was observed by an NBA fan on Reddit, who paired it with his own playoff victories. When the two figures are added together, Gregg Popovich has a total of 1500 victories.

He is the only NBA head coach to attain this milestone. It’s a wonderful credit to his talent that he was able to set this record, which will almost certainly last for a long time.

Popovich is a famous coach who has been hailed by great coaches including Steve Kerr. Kerr acknowledged that much of what the Golden State Warriors coaching staff. It is doing is based on what he learned from Pop.
