NBA’s season has come to an end, but the excitement continues as teams gear up for the NBA playoffs 2023. The play-in tournament currently in its third year has fans eagerly anticipating the high-tension matchups that will determine which teams secure their spots in the playoffs.

The winners of the 7-8 games in each conference will secure the seventh seed. While the winners of the 9-10 games will face the losers of the 7-8 games on Friday for a chance at the remaining eighth seeds.

According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index (BPI), the LA Lakers are not only considered the best team in the play-in tournament, but they also have the eighth-best BPI in the entire league. The Lakers are projected to finish in the top three in the Western Conference according to projections. Moreover, the Miami Heat, despite their 14th ranking in BPI, boasts a higher rating compared to the 18th-ranked Hawks.

One of the biggest storylines revolves around the Western Conference. Here three of the four teams in the play-in tournament were only within two games of the sixth seed, which guarantees a playoff spot. Notably, LeBron James and the Lakers are in the play-in tournament. King James has only missed the playoffs five times in his illustrious 20-year NBA career.

The Eastern Conference also promises intriguing matchups. It will feature star players like Jimmy Butler, Trae Young, and Zach LaVine looking to extend their seasons. Many experts predict that the Heat and Raptors will come out of the East. Projections indicate that the Lakers and Timberwolves are favored to advance from the West.

In the Eastern Conference, the Raptors, ranked 11th in BPI. Expectations are that they will have a close matchup against the 12th-ranked Bulls. However, due to a more complete starting lineup, the Raptors are favored to advance and potentially face the Hawks for a shot at the playoffs.

In the Western Conference, the Pelicans, ranked 16th in BPI, have a talented team, but the Timberwolves, ranked 19th, have the advantage of home court and a plethora of talent. As a result, projections indicate that the Timberwolves will secure the No. 8 seed in the West.

As the play-in tournament unfolds, fans can expect intense competition and high stakes as teams battle for their playoff berths. With star players, veteran experience, and statistical projections in play, it remains to be seen which teams will ultimately emerge from the play-in tournament and secure their spots in the NBA playoffs 2023.
