New Orleans Pelicans fans were eagerly anticipating the return of their star player, Zion Williamson, as the team gears up for the NBA play-in tournament.
Unfortunately, as per Zion Williamson’s Injury Update, it seems that he won’t be able to participate in the tournament. He is doubtful for the start of the postseason, should the team advance that far.
Zion Williamson has been recovering from a hamstring injury that he sustained on January 2 and later re-aggravated near the All-Star break while working toward his return. Despite being cleared to resume basketball activities on March 22, he has yet to make his way back to the court.
Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin revealed that getting Williamson in a five-on-five workout in time for any play-in tournament game is impossible. This means that the team will have to rely on other players to lead the charge in the postseason.

Uncertainty surrounding Zion Williamson’s playoff availability
The 22-year-old Williamson has played in only 29 games this season and has been nothing short of dominant, averaging 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting an incredible 60.8 percent from the field. He earned his second career All-Star selection, although he could not play in the game.
While it’s disappointing news for Pelicans fans, the team has managed to stay in the hunt for the postseason without Williamson’s services. With a record of 41-39, they are currently tied for seventh in the Western Conference, which puts them in line to compete in the play-in tournament.
However, the Pelicans can still clinch a top-six spot to confirm a playoff seed. With two games left, they are currently sitting behind a pair of fifth-place teams in the 42-38 Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers.
It remains to be seen if the superstar will be able to join the team in the playoffs, but for now, Zion Williamson’s injury update doesn’t look that promising.. Nonetheless, fans will be hoping for the best as the team looks to make a deep playoff run.
