Real Madrid news: Lothar Matthaus has hailed Real Madrid star Toni Kroos as the best German midfielder ever.
Matthaus was asked about his opinion of Kroos in an interview with the Spanish outlet Marca. “He’s a fantastic player. I saw him in the UEFA Super Cup recently,” the 1990 FIFA World Cup winner said.
When asked if Kroos was one of the best-ever German midfielders, Matthaus hailed the Real Madrid star as the ‘best’. He said: “I’d say he’s the best. If you look at the titles he’s won, he’s no.1.
“He won the Champions League with Bayern Munich, with Real Madrid, league titles with both, the World Cup. ??He’s very intelligent, precise, and he always makes good decisions.”
Real Madrid news: Toni Kroos’ career
Kroos is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. He has been at Real Madrid since 2014 and has played a key role in the club’s four Champions League titles since.
Since joining Real Madrid, Kroos has featured in 367 games for Real Madrid. He has also scored 25 goals for the Spanish side.
Apart from four Champions League titles, he has also won La Liga and Supercopa de Espana thrice each with Real Madrid.
Kroos has also tasted FIFA Club World Cup success with Real Madrid four times. He has also won the UEFA Super Cup thrice with Los Blancos.
Before joining Real Madrid, Kroos was at Bayern Munich. That is where the German midfielder began his senior career. Kroos played in 205 games for the Bundesliga behemoths during his time at the club. He has also won the Champions League once with the German outfit.
Kroos has also played for another German side Bayer Leverkusen, on loan from Bayern Munich. The now 32-year-old joined Leverkusen on an 18-month loan from Bayern in January 2009. Kroos featured in 48 games for Leverkusen during his time at the club.
Kroos has also represented Germany’s national football team. He made his Germany senior team debut in 2010. Kroos made 106 appearances for Die Mannschaft until his retirement from international football in 2021. Kroos was also part of the German side that won the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
