Tottenham Hotspur wins the Champions League game against ten-man Eintracht Frankfurt by a narrow margin on Wednesday night.
Both Harry Kane and Son shined for the Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur stadium, as they kept their hope alive to qualify for the next round of the Champions League game.
Spurs are in Group D which has tough opposition like Sporting CP and Marseille other than Frankfurt.
This win helped the Spurs to reach on top of the group with 7 points in 4 matches. They held a goalless draw against Frankfurt in the previous fixture.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Line-up
Conte introduced a 3-4-3 formation with Kane leading the attack with Richarlison on the right and Son on the left. On the other side, Frankfurt also held the same formation with a 3-man back.
Match Day Activity
In the first half, a mistake from Dier crumbled the Spurs’ defence, as Daichi Kamada’s goal in the 14th of the game from Rode’s unselfish pass led the game 1-0. But Spurs soon equalized with Son’s goal in the 20th minute from Kane’s pass.
During the 25th minute, Kane was fouled by Frankfurt’s defence in the penalty box. Even though the referee ruled out the possibility of a penalty, VAR gave the decision in Tottenham’s favour.
The final goal came from a brilliant cross from Hojelberg, which was scored by a spectacular volley from Son in the 36th minute. Before the break, Romero’s header was brilliantly saved by Trapp.
After the second-half whistle, Tottenham Hotspur’s utter dominance came to an end. Sessegnon failed to score from a brilliant pass from Richarlison. The worst part of refereeing came when the Spanish referee, Del Cerro Grande, forgot to show a red card to already booked Tuta. But in the end, he made the right decision.
Just before 90 minutes, Faride Alidou scored a header from the corner for Frankfurt. In the extra time, Gil was brought down in the penalty box which awarded Spurs another penalty for the night. But Kane missed the penalty miserably, as he sent the ball to the top of the bar.
Son on His Partnership With Kane
Overall, Tottenham had a decent game. But Kulusevsky was still absent from the line-up due to his thigh injury.
Speaking to BT Sport, the in-form South Korea international said about his great on-field partnership with Kane: “We just understand each other really well. I know what he likes to do and he’s the same. The relationship, it’s always hard work and good effort. It’s always been a pay-off for hard work. Many more to come I hope.”
Conte demanded more from his team, as he spoke: “We could have scored many many goals”. Tottenham Hotspur will meet Everton in the upcoming Premier League fixture on Saturday at their home field.
