Tottenham Hotspur News: Antonio Conte admits "It will take time to bring Tottenham back"

Tottenham Hotspur News: Antonio Conte’s Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Mura in the UEFA Conference League. Following the game, Antonio Conte made no excuses and admitted that it will take time to fix the club.

Spurs travelled to Slovenia to face FC Mura. The Tottenham supporters were confident after their side beat Mura 5-1 at home earlier in the season. But to their surprise, the result was not what they had expected.

Mura took the lead early on before Harry Kane levelled for Spurs in the second half. It looked like the points would be shared at the end of 90 minutes. But an injury-time goal by Amadej Marosa ensured that Mura got the first win of their Conference League campaign.

This is Tottenham Hotspur’s second loss of their Conference League campaign. And it is the first loss that the club suffered under Antonio Conte.

What did Antonio Conte say?

The Italian was interviewed after the game, which was covered by Goal. In the interview, Antonio Conte expressed his disappointment with the result. The Tottenham Hotspur manager made no excuses and was honest with his answers.

Antonio Conte said, “We need patience to improve, to be good again.” He added, “We were poor not only technically and tactically but also mentally. It will take time to bring Tottenham Hotspur back.”

Conte also stressed the fact that he has just started to understand the situation of the clubs after three weeks. He said the situation is not simple and the level of problems is currently very high.

Antonio Conte was especially critical of his side’s performance in the night. The Italian acknowledged that the performance was poor on the night. He added that it was a difficult result for the club and now they would have to do a lot of work before the next game.

The Tottenham manager made nine changes to his side. Only Kane and Tanganga retained their place from the team that started in the 2-1 win against Leeds in the weekend.

What’s next for Spurs in the UEFA Conference League?

The loss against Mura confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur would not be topping the group as expected. Tottenham currently have seven points and they are 4 points behind the Group G leaders Rennes.

Tottenham Hotspur would face Rennes in December in their final group game. A win would ensure their qualification to the next round of the UEFA Conference League. The game ended in a 2-2 draw when the two teams met in France earlier in the year.

Antonio Conte’s next task would be to prepare Spurs for the game against Burnley. Tottenham would face Burnley, Brentford, and Norwich in the Premier League before squaring off with Rennes on the 10th of December.
