Tottenham Hotspur targets Alessandro Bastoni‘s move to several reports. Inter Milan is trying their best to tie down the Italian defender to a new contract. But major European clubs are lurking around to get his signature.
In a recent long interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Bastoni praised his former manager Antonio Conte and his time at Inter. The defender opened up about his experience with other clubs by praising Gasperini and his time playing for Atalanta.
Then he spoke about how special Conte was.
He said: “With him came the consecration, which coincided with his arrival here in Milan. It is as if I have made a qualitative leap. He is a driving force, a real motivator, who makes specific requests to his players. trying to transfer a winning mentality. Of course, bad moments also happen, but the important thing is to know how to get up. I owe him so much”.
Inter Milan is trying to keep one of their two prized assets: Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni. But it is difficult for them to compete financially against English Clubs to offer a better wage deal. According to Gazetta, Inter valued the Italian defender at £52.3 million.
Bastoni Long Being Linked to Tottenham Hotspur Move
Tottenham Hotspur can get this deal done if they offer a deal around that region. Bastoni may be a young defender, but he has 15 Italy caps to his name. During Conte’s tenure, he appeared 74 times for Inter and won the Serie A title in the 2020-21 season.
After vying long for the Italian defender, Tottenham Hotspur gave up on him this summer and signed Clement Lenglet on a loan deal. But Conte is not happy with his team’s defensive performance. He is looking to sign a new left-sided central defender in his three-man defense system.
Bastoni has worked under Conte and understands his former manager’s demands.
While talking to GiveMeSport, Football journalist Ryan Taylor revealed Bastoni’s link to Tottenham. He told that the Spurs board “unanimously agreed” to a deal to sign Bastoni. But that move did not happen for some reason.
Bastoni is will enter the final 18 months of his contract in the January transfer window. Inter will have to sell him next summer to get a transfer fee if he decides not to sign a new contract.
It is true that Inter Milan highly rates Nerazzurri and they want a bidding war for their star man. Real Madrid, both Manchester Clubs, and Arsenal are all in the race to sign him.
But Tottenham Hotspur has the edge over others because of Conte’s presence.
If everything goes as planned Conte will reunite with his former player once again in 2023 as per reports.
