WWE NEWS: Ricochet has defeated Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship on the March 4th episode of smackdown for the first time ever. The talented high flyer had a spectacular match with the always smooth Sami Zayn and once again delivered a great performance.
Johnny Knoxville suddenly ran down the ramp and screamed wildly in Sami Zayn’s face which caused Zayn to be distracted. Upon sensing the distraction Ricochet recovered and took advantage to steal the win.
Sami Zayn later on in the show called out Johnny Knoxville later on in the show. Challenging him for a showdown at Wrestlemania which Johnny Knoxville himself personally accepted on Smackdown yesterday.
WWE began teasing a feud between Sami Zayn and Johnny Knoxville’s match since January when Knoxville announced he was taking part in the Royal Rumble. Zayn eliminated Jo Knoxville, who was the ninth entrant in the men’s rumble match.
For a long time, many fans have been discontent with Ricochet’s run. With the highly talented superstar constantly losing on television, having little character development, and was truly being underutilized.
But recently we’ve seen him gain consistency as he has been picking up wins and building momentum slowly. The superstar has recently picked up wins against Sheamus, Ridge Holland, Austin Theory, and now Sami Zayn.
With this title win, we hope it is a sign of better things to come and not just a brief run with the title as a transitional champion.
WWE NEWS: What’s next for Ricochet
It is going to be interesting watching Ricochet’s title reign play out as there are multiple possibilities. Whether he elevates the belt and in doing so elevates himself to World championship status or not will be fun to see.
There has been no hint of a challenger yet. It will be interesting to see the first challenger for his title as Ricochet can blend with any style of fighter he steps in the ring with. Currently, no update has been given on if Ricochet will defend his title at Wrestlemania. Though that is expected to change in the coming weeks.
This is not Ricochet’s first Championship win in the WWE. He has previously held the WWE NXT North American championship and the United states title. At just 33, he’s a wrestler that is extremely polished, innovative, and ready for more opportunities.
Ricochet signed with the WWE in 2018 after a lengthy run on the independent scene. He has worked for most of the prominent independent wrestling companies on the globe. Including companies like Evolve Wrestling, Dragon Gate in Japan, Pro Wrestling Guerilla, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Lucha Underground.
The last company Ricochet had worked for before joining the WWE was Lucha Underground. He was the inaugural Lucha Underground Champion. Although he hinted that there was a disconnect between him and the company. He Stated that an “underground fighting company holding him back” and that was the reason he had not yet been signed by a “major promotion”.
