Arsenal news: The Gunners bolstered their defensive department in the summer transfer window of 2023 with the addition of Jurrien Timber from Ajax.
However, Arsenal suffered an unexpected blow when Jurrien Timber sustained an injury during the Gunners’ Premier League 23/24 opener against Nottingham Forest. Timber picked up an injury at the start of the second half and Mikel Arteta replaced the Dutchman with Takehiro Tomiyasu in the 50th minute.
Arsenal have since confirmed that Jurrien Timber has suffered an ACL injury. Timber will miss the majority – if not the entirety – of the 23/24 season due to the injury. The player could, however, make a return to action towards the end of the current campaign.
Arsenal were linked with other defenders in the summer transfer window following Jurrien Timber’s injury. However, the Gunners failed to land a defender before the transfer window slammed shut at the start of September.

Takehiro Tomiyasu could be Jurrien Timber’s replacement: Arsenal news
Arsenal news: Jurrien Timber’s injury leaves Mikel Arteta with one less option in the defensive department at least until the January transfer window of 2023.
The 22-year-old Netherlands international is a versatile player and can play across the backline. Timber’s absence is certainly a blow for Arsenal, but they may already have a solution to the problems it brings, in the form of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 24-year-old Japanese player primarily plies his trade as a right-back but can also play as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder. He was impressive for Japan in the centre-back position when the Asian nation routed Germany last week.
Takehiro Tomiyasu played as a centre-back and featured throughout as Japan secured a sensational 4-1 win over Germany. Tomiyasu has been plying his trade for Arsenal ever since the north London outfit signed him from Bologna in the summer transfer window of 2021.
He has made 56 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions so far, three of which have come in the current campaign. In the absence of Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu could prove to be an even more valuable squad player for Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have had a good start to the 23/24 campaign. The Gunners defeated Manchester City on penalties to lift the Community Shield title and are unbeaten four games into the new Premier League season.
