Barcelona have been linked with a move for Joao Cancelo this summer, with the club keen to bolster their right-back department. Cancelo, meanwhile, has apparently fallen out of favour at Manchester City.
Joao Cancelo had moved to Bayern Munich on loan in the January transfer window of 2023 after a rumoured fallout with Pep Guardiola. Bayern Munich had the option to sign him on a permanent deal, but the German behemoths opted not to.
Joao Cancelo has since returned to Manchester City. But manager Pep Guardiola has not used the Portuguese international in any of the three Premier League games Manchester City have played so far this season.

Joao Cancelo Barcelona Transfer Update: Reliable football journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the Catalan outfit and Manchester City are finally exchanging transfer documents and that the deal is set to be signed today.

Fabrizio Romano also says that Joao Cancelo’s move to Barcelona will be on a loan deal. There will also be an option to buy him on a permanent deal inserted in the contract. He also says Cancelo is prepared to travel to Barcelona tonight.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Barcelona manager Xavi was unsure whether the club could pull off the signing of Joao Cancelo given their financial situation. However, Barcelona now seems to have managed that, going by Fabrizio Romano’s report.
Barcelona, meanwhile, edged Villarreal 4-3 in a thriller in La Liga in their most recent fixture. After taking a two-goal lead inside the first 15 minutes, the Catalan outfit conceded three goals.
However, goals from Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski sealed the win for Barcelona and earned the Catalan outfit all three points from the fixture. Barcelona, who are the defending La Liga champions, now have seven points from three matches this season. They sit third in the La Liga points table.
Barcelona will face Osasuna in an away fixture in La Liga in their next game. That game will take place at 12:30 a.m. Indian Standard Time on September 4th.
