In the latest Barcelona transfer news, Joan Laporta has confirmed they will try to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent transfer next summer if the player continues to perform well.
Barcelona signed Joao Cancelo on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in the summer transfer window of 2023. The Portuguese international has been impressive for Barcelona so far in the current campaign.
However, Barcelona does not have the option to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal. That means the Catalan outfit would have to negotiate with Manchester City and reach an agreement for the transfer of the full-back.
A Manchester City return looks unlikely for Joao Cancelo given how he fell down the pecking order at the Premier League club. Cancelo joined Bayern Munich on a loan deal in the January transfer window of 2023. He then returned to Manchester City after that loan spell but Pep Guardiola did not use the player in any fixtures in the 23/24 campaign before the 29-year-old’s move to Barcelona.
