Moussa Sissoko was one of the best players in the Euro 2016 final, if not the best, as he put in an amazing shift for the French national side. The 26 year old Newcastle United midfielder was already wanted by a host of clubs in the top flight of English football and his performance against Portugal on Sunday, would have bolstered any interest from top Premier League clubs for his services.
It seems that Rafa Benitez’s side has now acknowledged this interest and have put a £35m price tag on their player, if any of the clubs want to take him away from St James’ Park this summer.
The Magpies know that value of their priced asset, who put in a solid display in his country’s 1-0 loss to the Portuguese at the Stade de France.
The former Toulouse man joined the club which got relegated this season, for an undisclosed fee at the start of 2013 and does not wish to play in the Championship in the upcoming campaign.
The player has openly expressed his desire to play Champions League football next term, due to which he wishes to move away from the Tyneside, with top clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool looking to sign him.
With the departure of Andros Townsend to Crystal Palace, who activated his £13m buy-out clause, the Spaniard is keen on retaining the services of his stars Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Both Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino want more quality stars in their squad, prior to the start of the new season and it will be interesting to see who wins this race now, with Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger looking rather mum in the transfer window at the moment.
