Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho praised Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s fighting mentality in adapting to a new team.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggled to get into first team for Manchester United during the start of the season. But lately Mourinho is giving a chance for Mkhitaryan to prove himself.
Manchester United signed Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund this summer for a transfer fee of £26m. He has played around 140 matches for Dortmund and scored 40 goals for the German club. Last season, he was awarded Bundesliga Player’s Player of the Year award.
But the Armenian international didn’t get enough chances during first 2 months at United. He played in last 3 matches for Manchester United and his performances are pleasing the manager.
Jose Mourinho admits he is very pleased that Mkhitaryan has done well for United in recent matches. He scored his first goal for the club on his return to Ukraine in a Europa League game against Zorya Luhansk.
“It was a strong mentality,” said the Mourinho when asked about Mkhitaryan’s attitude. “He was determined to fight against his difficult adaptation.”
“He worked hard physically and tactically – the talent was there, we knew that when we bought him. Now he’s playing good – in the Premier League, Europa League and EFL Cup, and now the goal means a little more happiness for him, so I’m very pleased.”
Mkhitaryan’s excellent run and finish helped him score his first goal for Manchester United. Later Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the second goal of the game assuring Manchester United’s place in the last-32 of Europa League. United defeated the home side Zorya Luhansk by a 2-0 scoreline in Group A fixture.
There were complaints regarding playing the match over a frozen pitch, as player’s studs clacked on the rock surface on the eve of the match at the Chornomorets Stadium. But after several heating session and inspections, UEFA confirmed match will go on as scheduled. Manchester United finished second to Fenerbahce in their in Europa League.
